Why is the New Testament Necessary?

Updated: Oct 7

Some may ask, “why is the New Testament necessary?” Good question, however, it is not to be confused with, “Prove the validity of the New Testament.” Similar to the contrast between me proving I need a car, versus do cars exist? Or are cars reliable?

Long story short… the answer is due to our sins and thus resulting in a NEED for a savior to redeem or “save” us from those sins (and ultimately spiritual death) by providing another opportunity to not only repent but have a second chance as a nation at redemption to be worthy of eternal life.

Matthew 1:21 KJVS

[21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

The New Testament is established on Christs purpose and mission to be a symbolic sacrificial lamb. However, that purpose came as a need due to our transgression as a nation.

Acts 5:30-31 KJVS

“[30] The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. [31] Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.”

You see the continuity between the two scriptures in Acts and Matthew mentioned above. Christ gave his life as a man for us. But not only as a “man” who gave his life, but literally who this man was, who he is… The second in command of the earth and the universe and all creation. With only one entity having more power than himself. Who was manifested in the flesh, being a righteous example, leader, teacher and a living sacrifice who ultimately gave his life for all of ours.

John 11:49-52 KJVS

“[49] And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, [50] Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. [51] And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; [52] And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.”

The High Priest is one who should be very knowledgable in the word, the prophecies, and history of the nation. He understood the mission of Christ, and thus his purpose. It is best that one man be able to die, than all of us as a nation having to die or go through the torment Christ experienced. Knowing that we had fallen away from the Most High and were in need of reconciliation.

Hosea 1:6-7 KJVS

[6] And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away. [7] But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.

The northern kingdom also referred to as Israel or the ten tribes, had fallen away from the Most High.

Hosea 4:16-17 KJVS

[16] For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the Lord will feed them as a lamb in a large place. [17] Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.

This is why the Most High informed the southern kingdom, also referred to as Judah, to leave the northern kingdom of Israel alone. They were deep in idolatry as a nation.

2 Kings 17:18-20 KJVS

[18] Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only. [19] Also Judah kept not the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made. [20] And the Lord rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

The Most High later became tired of the sins of Judah as well. And caused all of the tribes to go into captivity. This is the history in a nut shell that brings us back to the heart of why the New Testament was necessary. Israel needed to be saved and therefore a savior was needed to help reconcile us back to the Most High.

Matthew 1:21 KJVS

[21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
