If you’re like many of us, I’m sure you more than likely grew up celebrating and partaking in St. Patrick’s Day. The allure of wearing green, celebrating being in a space where you can party, have fun, drink to your hearts content, maybe even avoid a little bit of pinching. But nevertheless, as you start to come into the faith, you begin to realize many of the customs that you grew up keeping are not in line with what The Most High God identifies as being righteous and spiritually connected to him. And can rather put you in line with eternal damnation and judgment for continuing to celebrate these common traditions.
Colossians 2:8 KJVS
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
We must learn the true history to be in a position where we are circumspect of the various devices Satan uses through man to deceive us into worshipping him instead of The Most High God.
Origin and History

“St. Patrick is known as the patron saint of Ireland. True, he was not a born Irish. But he has become an integral part of the Irish heritage, mostly through his service across Ireland of the 5th century. His real name was probably Maewyn Succat. Though Patricius was his Romanicized name, he was later came to be familiar as Patrick.”
Hmm, we see “Saint” Patrick is revered as one of good character by man according to the stories. But is he worthy to be called a “saint”? Let us first define saint using dictionary.com:
Patron Saint
•a saint regarded as the special guardian of a person, group, trade, country, etc.
Saint
•1. any of certain persons of exceptional holiness of life, formally recognized as such by the Christian Church, especially by canonization.
•2. a person of great holiness, virtue, or benevolence.
Now that we have the dictionary.com definition in mind we understand that a saint is someone of great holiness, virtue or benevolence or someoen with exceptional holiness of life. But what is the biblical definition of saint?
Psalm 148:14 KJVS
He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the LORD.
When one is identifying a saint, God lets us know that the foundational requirement is one must be of the people of the children of Israel. Those are his saints.
Deuteronomy 7:6 KJVS
For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
Here we understand that these are the people that God decided to separate and cleanse unto himself; that is, to make them holy. He did not choose to make everyone holy. People can be holy unto themselves or one another, but this does not signify acceptance from God as holy.
“…he set out for Ireland with the Pope's blessings. There he converted the Gaelic Irish, who were then mostly Pagans, to Christianity. He was confident in the Lord, he journeyed far and wide, baptizing and confirming with untiring zeal. And, in a diplomatic fashion he brought gifts to a kinglet here and a lawgiver there, but accepted none from any.”
Although these efforts seem good, they may not be reflective of what God considers good. As the modern orthodox form of Christianity taught today is not aligned with what Christ nor his disciples were teaching. But has rather been laced with many doctrines of man.
Psalm 147:19-20 KJVS
He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. [20] He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.
The Most High God has not chosen to reveal the sincere doctrine of his laws and in-depth understanding of him to the whole world. As the world as a whole decided to reject him. But rather he chose his people as the focus. The other nations do not have a good understanding of The Most High Gods laws and judgments.
Isaiah 8:20 KJVS
To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
One must teach according to the sound doctrine of the scriptures. Else, the further they go away from the scriptures it reveals the less righteous they are and the more distant they are from the Most High God.
Proverbs 6:23 KJVS
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
The laws and commandments are our guide to help us navigate this wicked world an correct us when we are wrong and how to move right.
“Patrick's doctrine is considered orthodox and has been interpreted as anti-Pelagian. Although he is not particularly noted as a man of learning, a few of his writings remain extant: his Confession, a reply to his detractors, and several letters. The Lorica ("Breastplate"), a famous hymn attributed to Patrick, may date to a later period. By the end of the 7th century Patrick had become a legendary figure, and the legends have continued to grow since then. There are many legends associated with St Patrick.”
2 Esdras 3:36
Thou shalt find that Israel by name hath kept thy precepts; but not the heathen.
The other nations have not been significantly successful in keeping the laws of The Most High God in the same manner as the people of the children of Israel.
Psalm 50:16 KJV
But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
As a result, they are not in a position to teach the world, let alone us as Israelites righteousness. As they themselves are not deemed worthy of such in the eyes of The Most High. Seeing they need to be focused on learning righteousness themselves.
“He died on March 17, AD 461. That day has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since.
Though originally a Catholic holy day, St. Patrick's Day has evolved into more of a secular holiday. Or, rather, 'be an Irish Day' And the Irish has borne it as part of their national tradition in everywhere they populated and prospered. The Catholic feast day for this most loved of Irish saints has become a holiday in celebration of the Irish and Irish culture.”
Hebrews 11:14 KJVS
For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
Often times our people get absorbed into the culture and mindset of other nations that we live amongst and adopt there practices. When we have our own practices and our own customs that we should be striving to get back to.
Hebrews 11:15-16 KJVS
And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. [16] But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
We must be mindful of our history and our departure from sound doctrine to understand that God gave us something better and has better in store for us if we sincerely repent and do his will instead of our own or that of man.
The Leprechaun

“The Leprechaun is an Irish fairy. He looks like a small, old man (about 2 feet tall), often dressed like a shoemaker, with a cocked hat and a leather apron. According to legend, leprechauns are aloof and unfriendly, live alone, and pass the time making shoes. They also possess a hidden pot of gold. Treasure hunters can often track down a leprechaun by the sound of his shoemaker's hammer. If caught, he can be forced (with the threat of bodily violence) to reveal the whereabouts of his treasure, but the captor must keep their eyes on him every second. If the captor's eyes leave the leprechaun (and he often tricks them into looking away), he vanishes and all hopes of finding the treasure are lost.”
2 Timothy 4:4 KJV
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
We would rather here stories of reassuring lies, that we even pass down to our children than to hear uncomfortable truths.
The Blarney Stone

“The Blarney Stone is a stone set in the wall of the Blarney Castle tower in the Irish village of Blarney. Kissing the stone is supposed to bring the kisser the gift of persuasive eloquence (blarney). The castle was built in 1446 by Cormac Laidhiv McCarthy (Lord of Muskerry) -- its walls are 18 feet thick (necessary to thwart attacks by Cromwellians and William III's troops). Thousands of tourists a year still visit the castle.”
Sirach 1:26 “If thou desire wisdom, keep the commandments, and the Lord shall give her unto thee.”
God does not want us to put our hope in a stone or any other thing created. But rather to focus our energy and mindset on him and his power. Seeing he is greater than anything he created. If one can admire the art, how much more the artist. Who can freely create any work upon a canvas.
“The origins of the Blarney Stone's magical properties aren't clear, but one legend says that an old woman cast a spell on the stone to reward a king who had saved her from drowning. Kissing the stone while under the spell gave the king the ability to speak sweetly and convincingly. It's tough to reach the stone -- it's between the main castle wall and the parapet. Kissers have to stretch to their back and bend backward (and downward), holding iron bars for support.”
Jeremiah 2:27-28 KJVS
Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us. [28] But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.
God finds it beyond disrespectful to look to these things for aid and support. This is the root of idolatry. Looking to something (or even someone) before or above God to save you when you should be looking for The Most High God. Seeking Gods favor and blessing on your life. Not a lucky charm.

Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Your true power lies in you becoming righteous and being filled with the Most High Gods Holy Spirit. So you receive the highest level of favor and blessings available in this life to overcome any and all obstacles.
Four Leaf Clovers

“You probably associate four-leaf clovers with St. Patrick and Shamrocks, but the tradition started long before that.In the early days of Ireland, the Druids believed that they could see evil spirits coming when they carried a shamrock, or three-leaf clover, giving them a chance to get away in time! They thought four-leaf clovers offered magical protection, and warded off bad luck. It’s mostly their importance as a Celtic charm that has carried forward in modern days to make four-leaf clovers a sign of luck. The leaves of four-leaf clovers as a lucky charm can stand for:
•Faith
•Hope
•Love
•Luck”
The three or four leaf clover or shamrock is used as a sign of luck. But is luck something we should be focusing on?
Luck
•the force that seems to operate for good or ill in a person's life, as in shaping circumstances, events, or opportunities: With my luck I'll probably get pneumonia.
•good fortune; advantage or success, considered as the result of chance: He had no luck finding work.
The world would have us believe it is natural to believe in luck to guide our circumstances or lively affairs. Yet, this is not what our righteous forefathers and foremothers would have adopted. Nor is it approved by God.
Deuteronomy 32:39
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
The Most High God wants us to understand that he is the chief entity in charge of the affairs of all lives. So it is him you should be seeking.
Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Through him we must seek his laws and commandments to apply them in our life to be at one with him and his Holy Spirit. So we may steadily increase the overall level of blessings we receive in our life.
“According to Christian legend, Eve is said to have carried a four-leaf clover with her when she left the Garden of Eden. That means that anyone who has one can claim to hold a bit of Paradise.”
1 Timothy 4:1 KJV
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Don’t allow yourself to be seduced by embellished stories that sound good but have no place in the word of The Most High God.
Pinching & Green
“At any St. Patrick's Day event you attend these days, you will just see a sea of green. There isn't really one reason why this is the official color of St. Patrick's Day, but the color green has a lot of connections to Ireland and springtime. It's featured in the Irish flag, Ireland is nicknamed the "Emerald Isle," it represents spring and it's the color of shamrocks, The Christian Science Monitor points out. And remember, if you don't wear green, you risk being pinched. That wholly American tradition comes from the idea that people thought wearing green helped ward off being pinched by leprechauns (seriously), according to The Christian Science Monitor. Leprechauns would pinch anyone they could see, i.e. anyone not wearing green.
Acts 5:29 KJVS
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Just as the follows of Christ, we too must choose to obey God rather than the ungodly customs of man that teach us to go against the will of The Most High God.
