Have you ever wondered why is life so hard? Why is it filled with so much pain and sorrow? The Bible informs us of how these things came to be and why that is.

Sirach 40:1 KJVA

Great travail is created for every man, and an heavy yoke is upon the sons of Adam, from the day that they go out of their mother’s womb, till the day that they return to the mother of all things.

This scripture may hit hard for some. For all of us, great travail; great and painfully difficult work and burdensome work, is created for us to endure in this life. The yoke is symbolic for the heavy weight and burden of these perils, from the day we are born until the day we die! But why?

2 Esdras 7:11-12 KJVA

11 Because for their sakes I made the world: and when Adam transgressed my statutes, then was decreed that now is done. 12 Then were the entrances of this world made narrow, full of sorrow and travail: they are but few and evil, full of perils,: and very painful.

Even though the world was made for our sakes, when Adam sinned, that began the course of difficulty of this life. What was once easy, peaceful, fun, and heavenly became miserable, difficult, laborious and hellish.

2 Esdras 7:13 KJVA

For the entrances of the elder world were wide and sure, and brought immortal fruit.

The world before Adam and Eve sinned was set up very differently from the world we know today. And at first that can become hard to conceive. However, we must understand that the world has not been operating under uniformitarianism. It has experienced rapid changes at various times that have greatly affected not just the geographical world but all life upon earth itself even the weather! Animal life changed, plant life changed, humans changed. You get glimpses of it when you read certain passages but you do not get a wholistic perspective unless it is shown to you or you really mediate and study it. This is why Esdras responds the way he does.

2 Esdras 7:48 KJVA

O thou Adam, what hast thou done? for though it was thou that sinned, thou art not fallen alone, but we all that come of thee.

When you understand that many things in life changed, and that for the worse, due to Adam and Eve’s sin, you realize we all suffer to this day as a result. Animals were not created to be as violent in general, the earth itself was more peaceful. Think it is a stretch? It didn’t even rain on the earth, how then could one have a hurricane, or flash flooding? The natural disasters we deal with today are a product of sin not being an inhabitant of earth.

Let us examine these things a little more so I can paint an even clearer picture for you. I will do this by covering a few verses from the book of Ecclesiasticus.

Sirach 39:25 KJVA

For the good are good things created from the beginning: so evil things for sinners.

This scripture is a hint at the life of Adam and Eve. All of the things created were for their good. Anything that may have seemed bad or evil was only there if sin came into play. But it was meant to be good at the first.

Sirach 39:27 KJVA

27 All these things are for good to the godly: so to the sinners they are turned into evil.

All things are meant to be good unto the godly. But those things become evil unto the sinners.

Sirach 39:28 KJVA

28 There be spirits that are created for vengeance, which in their fury lay on sore strokes; in the time of destruction they pour out their force, and appease the wrath of him that made them.

Spirits are created. Some were created for vengeance to cause harm and injury. And these spirits possess elements, people and animals alike.

Sirach 39:29 KJVA

29 Fire, and hail, and famine, and death, all these were created for vengeance;

Fire, hail, famine and death were al made to punish the wicked. And God can utilize these things at anytime for judgement. But it doesn’t stop here.

Sirach 39:30 KJVA

30 Teeth of wild beasts, and scorpions, serpents, and the sword punishing the wicked to destruction.

Teeth of wild animals, scorpions and serpents are all made to punish the wicked even the sword wielded by man. So it isn’t always a situation of these things always being newly created but some where there but nearly as prevalent. But as sin increased in the world so too did there destructive force.

Sirach 39:31 KJVA

31 They shall rejoice in his commandment, and they shall be ready upon earth, when need is; and when their time is come, they shall not transgress his word.

These are the spirits created for vengeance. The tools used to destroy and punish the ungodly. Some came into existence later. Later being after the fall of Adam and Eve for example. While others were present but their nature became more aggressive; more poisonous, more deadly after the fall of Adam and Eve.

1 Corinthians 15:45 KJVS

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

The man Adam was fashioned after the flesh. But Christ being a representation of Adam was made after the spirit. One sinned and died and brought about the downfall of the world. The other obeyed and lived, saving the world.

Romans 5:14 KJVS

Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

The plague of death was what ruled over us even for those who did not commit the same sin as Adam. Adam was a figure of Christ who was to come. Being not only a son but God’s “only begotten son” his chosen vessel, his chosen leader to inherit his will and guide the world.

Luke 3:38 KJVS

Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

Adam was literally the son of God. Created through him and the earth to form us. He was made special.

1 Corinthians 15:22 KJVS

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

Through Adam we all are doomed to die, but through Christ we are blessed to have the chance to live.
