Adam & Eve Part 12: Hiding Among The Trees

Updated: Oct 9

Genesis 3:8-9 KJVS

And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. [9] And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

So what is going on here? Adam and Eve had sinned and as such, they were now in a place where they have defiled themselves. And they are aware of the fact that they are no longer at one with The Most High God. They have lost virtue due to their error. As a result they are not as clean spiritually and they can feel the difference in their spirit.

Mark 5:30 KJVS

And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

Christ perceived that he lost virtue. Not because he sinned but because somthing unclean had touched him and therefore defiled him. Similar to how touching a dead body defiles us.

So now, as the voice of The Most High God is being heard and felt, they know they are guilty of a crime they have yet to confess to. And that voice that they hear, before any word is spoken of by The Most High God is being communicated through the Holy Spirit. The spirit of The Most High God bearing witness to their sins. Almost like the arrival of your parents. You hear the car approaching, see the lights, hear the car turn off. You hear the footsteps of your parents approaching the door. Keys jingling in hand. The key sliding into the doors key hole. The door opening with the squeak of the door hinges. The footsteps coming inside and moving either closer to you or to the point of interest they want to inspect. And finally the voice of your parent.

Proverbs 20:11 KJV

Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

Now why is this all important and so dragged out? Because this is an example of the voice that Adam and Eve heard before any words were even said. They heard all of these things prior to their parent saying “I’m home! What’s wrong? Did you do such and such like I told you?”. And like many parents, they already inspected enough to get a gauge and can see some things were left undone but want to hear it from you. The Most High already knew what was up but needed the confession. He knew where they were exactly but he wanted to hear it from them. And just as children what did Adam and Eve try to do first? Hide! And they chose to hide among the trees. Why trees?

Mark 8:24 KJVS

And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

The trees were symbolic for people. When God gave the decree in the beginning, as it pertained to trees and fruit, he was not making reference to literal trees and literal fruit in the way one thinks when they read the story and see retellings of the story through books and films. They make every element literal when the majority of it was figurative, metaphorically speaking.

Matthew 7:17 KJVS

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

The tree is being referenced to the human being or individual in question. The fruit is symbolic for what it is this person is producing through either their words or deeds. Now, notice there is a distinction in the trees. Because naturally there is a distinction in people; either they are evil or they are good. The Most High was dividing up the people over time and setting bounds. Letting it be known not to mess with certain trees because they are not bearing good fruit. Their actions are not what I would approve of. Leave them alone. But these trees you can mess with. I can work with how these people are moving. No different than that of Israel and the other nations. Some he said you could deal with others were too far gone. Some nations had a certain level of fear of God while others did not. Let us look at a couple of examples.

Genesis 24:3 KJVS

And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:

Abraham did not want his son Isaac taking a wife of the people of Canaan. Why? Because he understood they were abominable. Those trees were tainted and brought forth rotten fruit. And that knowledge was passed down but not everyone listened.

Genesis 38:1-3,6-7 KJVS

And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah. [2] And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her. [3] And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er. [6] And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar. [7] And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

Here we see a perfect example of one going left from the established order. “Judah went down from his brothers...” Meaning he not only left them physically to an extent but disconnected spiritually to an extent. Where a lack of accountability in a different region opened up the door of opportunity for him to be able to take on a wife from a people and nation that his immediate forefathers would have cautioned against. But what people may overlook is the fact that his son was not only wicked and as such was put to death but not knowing that many of the behaviors and actions that led to him being the tree that he was and producing the fruit that he ultimately did was due to the stock he came from. Primarily the tree that nourished him; his mother! A Canaanite! This is why The Most High was telling Adam leave them other trees alone. They will get you messed up.

Sirach 33:11-12 KJVA

In much knowledge the Lord hath divided them, and made their ways diverse. Some of them hath he blessed and exalted and some of them he sanctified, and set near himself: but some of them hath he cursed and brought low, and turned out of their places.

When it came to mankind, The Most High God was the one that divided them over time. And as he formed man he made there ways different one from another. Which is why we don’t all have the same innate ability. Which most refer to as talent or skill. This is by design. And the scriptures even acknowledge this early on.

Genesis 4:19-22 KJVS

And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. [20] And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. [21] And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. [22] And Zillah, she also bare Tubal–cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal–cain was Naamah.

Here we see Lamech, a descendant of Cain taking on wives. He took on a total of two wives that we know of but his children became great each in their own way. But notice the key thing that made them great was how each one carved out a lane in a speciality that carried on in their children.

Genesis 4:23-24 KJVS

And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt. [24] If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

Notice how each generation was growing more wickedly. Lamech knew of his forefather Cain’s sin and he not only did similarly he took it a step further and did worse. This is how the trees are becoming more and more tainted until the time comes when they dry out and are ultimately cast into the flame.

Genesis 4:23,25-26 KJVS

And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt. [25] And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. [26] And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

In process of time, Adam and Eve had another child; Seth. Who would begin a blessed lineage. A more righteous lineage. That was the time when men began to call on the name of the Lord because Cain’s lineage was not concerned with righteousness. But The Most High God moved in a way to open a door that would allow righteousness to thrive by helping Adam and Eve produce a good fruit that would ultimately produce a good tree. As such, they began to seek God and have a care and concern for righteousness.

Matthew 12:33 KJVS

Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

You have to decide what type of tree you will be and what manner of fruit you will produce.
