A Child of God

Updated: Oct 9

It may not come as a surprise to you but if you are reading this more than likely you are a child of God. And I am sure early on in your life (your childhood even) you heard someone proclaim that they themselves are a child of God. So much so, it just became a common proverb or saying like, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Yet so few of us actually take the time to consider what it truly means to be a child of God.

Romans 8:16 KJVS

[16] The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

It can be easily overlooked that it is the spirit that bears record and witness with our spirit to attest to who we are. How? We overlook the spiritual attributes that makes one acceptable in Gods eyes. It isn’t merely being of the seed or genealogy that matters. Or rather is the end all be all.

Luke 3:7-8 KJVS

[7] Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? [8] Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

The flesh profits little. For though you be of the seed it is little worth if you be not of the spirit. For even Abraham was of both seed and spirit. But it was the spirit that saved him.

Romans 8:16 KJVS

[16] The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

It is the spirit of the Most High that aligns with our spirit. Why? Because the spirits should be one and the same! As they should both be of the Father. For we are his children. And we know pertaining unto the flesh that children inherit attributes from their father. How much more then do his children inherit attributes of the spirit?

Romans 8:17 KJVS

[17] And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

You are a child of God. That comes with more than a title. It comes with responsibility. You are supposed to be a living breathing example of God and his glory in human form. You are supposed to be a joint-heir with Christ. That as he was so should you be. And as he is, so shall you be. IF you do well as he did well. And after he suffered, for our sakes he was then later glorified. And this we share also, both in suffering and glory.

John 13:15 KJVS

[15] For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

This is the key. We are called to be examples for Gods glory. And that after he receives his glory we might receive ours. Being a living example through our actions and sacrifices. That even we as parents in flesh expect. “Don’t go out here embarrassing me”. Knowing there was a standard of attire, attitude and behavior that accompanied this saying and an earnest expectation of application and change needed to conform to the standard in which they (as your parent or you as a parent) set. How much more the parent of all spirits?

Proverbs 17:25 KJVS

[25] A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.

If your not listening to the Fathers instruction when he is teaching you wisdom. You begin to choose foolishness over wisdom. And which of you having or intending on having children want a foolish son or daughter? If they are too bad you may start having regrets about having them. You may not want to say it because they come from you, but damn. Like what’s the point? Like having a car that you can’t drive… You get nowhere.

It also mentions bitterness. Although I know some of you may like lemons or limes. That isn’t what it is talking about. Rather think of it as something that should be sweet or savory but it has expired and become rancid. NOW it is in essence “bitterness”. At this stage do you still desire to eat it? No. That same sentiment is likened into a foolish child. Which we become when we disobey the father and do not move according to his will. We become bitter and rancid. When he calls for us to either be sweet or savory accordingly.

You must take control of your life all in this world and remember whose swag you carry when you walk. Everyone should be impressed or pleased to meet you and see you exude with a level of holiness they don’t see everyday because the world does not walk in accordance to the light. They move in the shadows. So you should always appear bright.

Romans 12:1-2 KJVS

[1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. [2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

You cannot be a child of God and be a thief, a murderer, an adulterer, a fornicator etc. for then you wouldn’t be a child of God but rather of the God of this world; that is the devil. For his ways you follow. Therefore he has become your father. Yet, we know how to put our mind, flesh and spirit under the obedience of Christ to bring us into the glory of our Heavenly Father. To be worthy of being called his children because we receive his instruction and move according to his will being an example unto all flesh.

Proverbs 17:6 KJVS

[6] Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
